Background
In 2005 we witnessed the destructive power of our climate and weather systems that whilst thankfully a rarity in the UK, conservatory manufacturers and designers have nevertheless a duty of care to consider. When wind and snow loads are applied to a typical conservatory, such as a Georgian style, the hip bars carry the load down to the eaves beam. The ridge tries to deflect, and pushes back against the host wall whilst at the same time the eaves beam tries to pull away from the host wall as a result of the action of the hip bars. Without measures to counter these pressures, the conservatory roof would be in danger of collapse.
